Brian's 16th Birthday in Hawaii

March 23, 2003

Brian turned 16 while we were in Hawaii. We started out with breakfast at the Kuhio Grill in our hotel. They brought Brian a piece of birthday cheesecake.

After breakfast we went to church. We had to stop at a gas station for directions and the gas station clerk made some weird remark (at the time) about the Mormons...and Jesus (and then he held his hands out to the side and made some weird sound??). Brian and I hurried out of there but figured out that the clerk was trying to be helpful (and not weird). You'll see what I'm talking about when you click on a certain picture down below.

After church, we headed for Pearl Harbor  to see the USS Arizona Memorial. This was one of Brian's favorite things he did while on Oahu.

We finished the day eating at Morton's Steakhouse. Brian and Greg shared a 48 oz. Porterhouse steak. We shared three desserts: a piece of Godiva (chocolate) cake, a lemon souffle, and an warm upside down apple pie.

Below are some pictures of our day. You can put your mouse over the picture to read a caption and can click the picture to see a larger version. You may need to put the mouse over a picture more than once to read some of the longer captions.

The Honolulu stake center where the Manoa Ward met seemed to have been converted from an old church of another faith. See Christ's outstretched hands...Just like the gas station clerk said :-) Cool pool in front of the stake center (remincient of reflection pools at some LDS temples).

We took a boat out to the memorial at Pearl Harbor. Brian, Brooke, and Brent look at the ship burried at sea. Brooke drops a flower into the water over the ship. A mom helps her son place a lei in front of the names of those lost.

Brian and Greg shared a 48 oz. Porterhouse steak!
