Albuquerque's Freshmen All-City Meet

Wednesday, April 6, 2005

Brent participated at a track meet for ALL of the freshmen in Albuquerque. He was allowed to run/jump in up to five events. The events he ran/jumped in and their results were:

  • Long Jump (won first place with a jump of 19' 6"--not his best, but enough to win!--WOW! Just noticed Brent's name listed amongst Top 10 ABQ Varsity jumpers (scroll down to Track and Field Boys Top 10) in FIFTH place (but they spelled our last name wrong...darn them!) What's amazing is that he jumped another FOOT beyond that 20' jump in a JV meet, which they don't count. His JV jump of 21' would put him SECOND amongst area Varsity jumpers!)

  • High Jump (won second place with a jump of 5'10"--tying his best; the winning jump was 6'--His jump ties him with the FIFTH highest Varsity jumper in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho as of 4/7/05).

  • 200 Meter Race (won first place with a time of 23.02 seconds beating his old personal best of 23.9 seconds!--Brent's time is SIXTH compared to ALL Varsity runners in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho as of 4/7/05)

  • 400 Meter Relay (his team was second...they should have won...just barely lost it).

  • 800 Meter Relay (his team was second...Brent got them an incredible lead, but the other kids lost it on the other legs).

  • Cibola placed third overall in the city...the best showing EVER for the school's class of freshmen in boys track!

  • Coach Ken Henry told us (after the meet) that he was moving Brent up to Varsity. He had wanted to wait to move him until after the Freshmen All-City Meet so that Brent could enjoy success. Assistant Coach Lott said that Brent had the fastest time in the 200 even over our Varsity runners. He will participate in his first regular Varsity meet THIS SATURDAY! Coach Henry also said something to the effect that the track world in Albuquerque will now be aware of BRENT JORGENSEN!

Here are two pictures from the meet of the All-City Champ!

Here's Brent CREAMING three La Cueva runners who trash talked him before the race telling him he'd probably come in 4th Place! One of the La Cueva kids lives in Cibola's boundaries but transferred to La Cueva for football and track...He's been trying to "recruit" Brent as per the La Cueva way of gathering the best athletes in town to their school!

Brent is still jumping pretty high for having NO high jump training. If he could only arch his back! His coach is pretty sure he will clear 6' soon.
