The Cibola Boys Track Team Wins District

for only the 2nd Time in School History!--May 3 & 5, 2007

 

To quote Brent's friend Brandon Simpson (see him yelling next to Brent): "We shocked the world!"

 

This was Brent's 2nd meet after being off for about a month and a half for a hamstring injury. He was further challenged with a nasty blister on his foot making it harder for him to kick at the end of his races. he worked through it the best he could and qualified for four events at state (the 200m, 400m, 800m relay, and the 1600m relay). He actually ran a personal best 22 seconds flat in the 200m:

Daniel Gooris won both of the hurdle events.

Eddie hands off to Simpson to "shock the world" by winning the 4x100.

Anthony Roybal won all of his long distance races.

Eddie Eubanks was 2nd in the 100 meter race.

Mycah broke Simpson's Cibola school record with his triple jump only...

...to have Brandon Simpson break Mycah's record to be #1 in the triple jump.

Brent qualified for state in the 400 m (he came in 2nd...just barely losing to one of the fastest guys in our state).

Brent finished 2nd in the 200 m by running 22 seconds flat qualifying for state.

Brent brought his team from behind in the 4x400.

He tried so hard to win it!

But just barely lost, again to one of the fastest guys in the state.

The throwers came out to cheer the runners and jumpers after their events.

NOTE: The charts list the times when an athlete qualifies for state. Brent actually ran the 400m a little faster than the time listed: 49.97. Others could have also logged faster times but this is approximately where Brent is as of May 5, 2007.

Another Note: Our 4x200m and 4 x 400m relay teams aren't as good as they were at the Wilson Relays due to the fact that we lost one of our best runners.
