March 28, 2007--Day Four in NYC

We ate at Joe Allen Restaurant, saw "Wicked" on Broadway, ate at Chocolate by the Bald Man

Note: Song playing in the background is "Popular" from the musical Wicked. Glinda the Good Witch of the North is singing to Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West about making her popular (works with Microsoft Internet Explorer not Firefox).

Jenny met us for lunch and to go to Wicked. We ate lunch at a place Rosie O'Donnell suggested called Joe Allen Restaurant (NOTE: I had sent her a message on her blog page and asked for the names of three NY restaurants she would recommend).

Towards the end of our meal, Brooke gasped..."There's MAX!" I immediately knew she meant Max Crumm from the recent reality TV show, Grease: You're the One that I Want, that had viewers pick the next Danny and Sandy for Grease on Broadway. I turned around and realized that Laura was also with him (in addition to what appeared to be two of their handlers). Brooke was beside herself as we had voted for them while they were on the show. Max kept turning around to look at Brooke (because he saw how excited she was...LOL). A waiter must have noticed her excitement and asked us to not approach them as they do not allow that to happen at Joe Allen Restaurant ;-) Our waitress, on the other hand, came up to us and said that she noticed Brooke's excitement and asked Max and Laura if they'd mind if we went over to say hello! Brooke was petrified, so I walked she and Candace to their table. We exchanged small talk about them winning and told them we were on our way to see Wicked. Max and Laura were both so nice and told her to come see them when their production opened. We didn't want to seem too stalkerish and didn't ask to have pictures taken--but here they are below:

After our EXCITING lunch we headed off to Wicked. Here's a blurb about the musical...Long before Dorothy dropped in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two unlikely friends end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for the most spellbinding new musical in years.

We ended our night at Chocolate by the Bald Man--Max Brenner. Jake and Jenny met up with us while Mom stayed at their apartment with the kids. We saved room for dessert (that's what they're famous for). We had fondue and several other chocolate dishes. Brooke's dessert malfunctioned (long story)...She ended up with chocolate ALL OVER HER CLOTHES. The waiter gave her a "Chocolate by the Bald Man" t-shirt to help ease her pain.

Here are some pictures from our fourth day...

We ate lunch at Joe Allen Restaurant.

They had cute Diet Coke bottles at the restaurant.

The menu had a map on the front that showed all of the local Broadway theaters.

Elphaba and Glinda--the witches of Wicked.

Candace, Brooke, Cheryl (and Jenny--not pictured) went to see the musical Wicked.

Candace and Brooke hold up their playbills.

We bought a signed poster for Brooke's room.

Brooke and Candace in their new Wicked shirts at Chocolate by the Bald Man--Max Brenner.

Jake and Jen met us for dinner.

Candace enjoying her fondue.

They gave Brooke a "Bald Man" shirt after spilling chocolate all over her new Wicked shirt.
